Introduction
Whack-a-mole is a popular carnival and leisure center game for children and adults alike. Whack-a-Face, the virtualised version of the game, is a mobile phone version of the game that has added features along with the original game principles. It is written using J2ME and runs with MIDP 1.0.
Rules
The objective of the game is to score as many points as possible before the game time runs out. The yellow faces give one point, the green faces give two and the red faces deduct points. As the game comes nearer to completion, the faces will become harder to hit as they stay up for shorter lengths of time. Three difficulty levels can be selected: easy, normal and hard. The difficulty changes the duration that a face occupies a hole, shorter for higher difficulties, and increases the number of points deducted from the players score when they whack a red face.
Controls
The holes are laid out as four rows and three columns. The keys on the mobile phone keypad have the same layout. Each key on the mobile phone keypad corresponds to the hole matching the same position in the game. For example, the "1" key, located at the top-left of the keypad on the mobile phone, corresponds to the top-left hole in the game. So pressing the "1" key while a face is occupying the hole will cause the face in that hole to be "whacked". Pressing the "#" key, located at the bottom right of the mobile phone keypad, will whack any face occupying the bottom right hole on the game screen.
